Direct Flights From Texas to Costa Rica

More people visit Hotel Jaco from Texas than any other state. Maybe it's because Hotel Jaco is Texan Owned. So here are the direct flights from Texas to Costa Rica.
Austin (AUS) to Liberia (LIR)

Liberia (LIR) is the lesser-known Costa Rican Airport located 3 hours north of Jaco on the Pacific Coast. I use this airport frequently as I live n Austin, and this is my only option for a direct flight. It is a smaller airport with friendlier staff and customs officials that are not as difficult as San Jose.

American Airlines flies from Austin, Texas to Liberia, Costa Rica, on Thursdays, Sundays,  and Tuesdays. The outbound flight is AA2135, leaving at 9:30 AM. It is a 3.5-hour flight on average. The return flights are on the same day at 1:03 PM. The flight number from Liberia, Costa Rica, to Austin is AA1586.

The other option is to connect through Houston on United. The drive from Liberia to Jaco is 1.5 to 2 hours longer than the drive from San Jose to Jaco. But by the departure times, shortened overall flight times, and easier immigration and customs in Austin and Liberia compared to Jan Jose and Houston make the extra time in the car more than worth it.

Dallas (DFW) to San Jose (SJO)

American Airlines has two nonstop flights from Dallas to San Jose each day. Flight times change with the seasons, but there is generally one direct flight in the morning and one at night every day. Drive time from the San Jose airport to Hotel Jaco is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes but can vary with the day of the week and the seasons.

Houston (IAH) to San Jose (SJO)

Houston has the most options for direct flights to Costa Rica. Depending on the time of year, there are up to three direct flights from Houston to SJO on United Airlines and one or more on Southwest Airlines. Drive time from the San Jose airport to Hotel Jaco is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes but can vary with the day of the week and the seasons.

There are presently no direct flights from San Antonio. I suggest our guests drive to the Austin airport and fly direct on American if they live on the North side of SA. Otherwise, a connecting flight through Houston on United may be the best option.

Here are some things to consider when booking your flights. Fridays and Sundays are the busiest days at the Airports in Costa Rica. If you must leave Costa Rica on a Sunday, leave Jaco for the airport before 9:30 in the morning to be safe. The 1 1/2 hour drive can become a four-hour nightmare on Sunday afternoons. If you can avoid arriving on Fridays you will have an easier time on the roads and in the airports. I arrive and leave on Tuesdays and Thursdays and rarely run into any congestion at the airport or on the road.

If you choose to fly into Liberia, I suggest packing some food. When you arrive in Liberia, there is only one choice for food outside immigration, and it is not a good one. Don't drink too much water or beer before you get in your ride to Jaco. Restrooms are few and far between.

We here at Hotel Jaco are happy to arrange your transportation to and from either airport. If you have any questions at all please email Rick@HotelJaco.com or Ramon@HotelJaco.com or call the hotel directly at (512) 593-5621.
